YEREVAN. – U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern is confident that President Barack Obama will make a strong-worded statement on April 24.

He shared his view with reporters while visiting the Armenian Genocide Memorial on Thursday, the Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent reported.

Ambassador said Obama would make a statement in several hours.

He will honor the memory of 1.5 million victims of the massacres that were perpetrated during the last years of the Ottoman Empire, Ambassador said.

The diplomat is confident that Obama will condemn the events as the worst atrocities of the twentieth century and will recognize the facts of 1915-1923. He said it would be a strong-worded statement but did not use the word “genocide”.
