YEREVAN. – Turkey PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s address on Wednesday is not accidental, and it needs to be observed in the context of resuming Armenian-Turkish relations.

Opposition Armenian National Congress National Assembly (ANC NA) Faction Head Levon Zurabyan told the aforesaid to reporters Thursday, before the start of the ANC march of mourning toward the Armenian Genocide Memorial in capital city Yerevan.

“It is apparent that there was a ‘curtsey’ of Armenian-Turkish relations. I believe the Armenian-Turkish diplomatic relations have started again,” Zurabyan said.

In his view, the US is the imitator and key mediator of the new process.

Commenting on Erdogan’s address on the occasion of the Armenian Genocide anniversary, the ANC MP noted that, with such statements, Turkey is able to alleviate the pressure on pushing the Genocide’s international recognition process forward.

“[But] no one should be naive and think that these are random statements. Not only did Erdogan extend condolences, but [Armenian President] Serzh Sargsyan replied and thanked for the condolences,” Zurabyan noted.
In his view, however, there is no reason to believe that this attempt will succeed and the Armenian-Turkish border will be opened.

The ANC march of mourning is still in progress.
