YEREVAN. – Armenia’s history does not have a prime minister, or a president, who has not promised to create equal conditions for everyone, opposition New Times party Chairman Aram Karapetyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Karapetyan stated the aforesaid commenting on Wednesday’s meeting between PM Hovik Abrahamyan and representatives of the country’s big businesses, during which they had spoken about ensuring equal opportunities in Armenia’s economy.

“I consider this yet another manifestation of populism. There is no real step which will show that there can be any positive change,” he stressed.

In his words, Armenia’s economy can change and develop solely through systemic changes.

“The problem is that the development concept for today’s Armenia does not allow the economy to develop.

“For [making] systemic changes in the economy you need to start from the political, legislative, intellectual domains. It’s impossible to just ‘pick up’ the economy and make systemic changes,” Aram Karapetyan noted, in particular.
