YEREVAN.  – Armenia must strengthen cooperation with Iran on gas and  other issues, PM Hovik Abrahamyan told lawmakers on Tuesday.

Speaking about suspension in gas supplies, Abrahamyan explained Armenia had not been receiving gas for three days because of an accident at the Georgian section of the North-South natural gas pipeline. Over this period of time, the country has received 2 million cubic meters of gas from Iran.

“We intend to deepen cooperation with Iran. Armenian government will do everything for these programs to be implemented and expanded,” Abrahamyan added.

In November Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mohammad Reisi said that Armenia could get gas much cheaper than price offered by Russia – $189 per thousand cubic meters. Later, the then Energy Minister  Armen Movsisyan said the talks with Iranian side did not imply this.
