YEREVAN. – The new  “Support to Democratic Governance in Armenia” project and its four elements will contribute to the development of civil society, Justice Minister Hovhannes Manukyan said.

The project will create financial stability for the NGOs and will support media pluralism, he said during the launch of the project on Tuesday.

The Justice Ministry underscores an important role of cooperation with international partners, in particular with EU delegation in Armenia.

“The European Union is one of Armenia's partners actively contributing to development of democratic institutions, human rights protection and introduction of effective justice system. In this context, the project aimed at development of democratic governance will provide broad opportunities for supporting democratic institutions and NGOs,” Manukyan noted.

The EU-funded project  has a total budget of € 949,670. The duration of the project is eighteen months. The project is implemented by the British Council in cooperation with its implementing partners CDPF, Grant Thornton and Thomson Foundation.

The project contains four components: creation of a sustainable legal and financial framework for CSOs, strengthening the capacity of civil society, support to free and pluralistic media,  raising public awareness of civil society development in Armenia.
