YEREVAN. – New free economic zone on border with Iran may be effective in the long term, Economy Minister Karen Chshmarityan told reporters.

“Iran is a friendly state, and development of economic relations with Tehran is very beneficial for us,” he said.

The local entrepreneurs and businessman from the Diaspora are showing interest in the economic zone.

The new free zone will accommodate production, including the Armenian-Iranian joint ventures. The minister said Western sanctions can not affect this project.

“We have normal trade with Iran, and sanctions are related to the companies Armenia had never worked with,” he resumed.
