A 4.6-magnitude quake was recorded Monday  morning at the Gulf of Iskenderun of Turkey’s Hatay Province, which borders Syria.

According to the data by the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute of Turkey, the quake occurred at 6:38am, 15 km west of Hatay’s Dortyol region, and in a depth of 17.6 km, reported Samanyolu website of Turkey.
The tremor caused panic among the local residents, who left their homes in fear and remained on the streets for several hours.   

To note, Vakif (Vakifli), which is Turkey’s sole Armenian-populated district in the area, likewise is located in Hatay Province.
