Iran is planning to hold the 31st International Short Film Festival in the capital city of Tehran.

The event is scheduled to take place from October 14 to 20, reported Press TV of Iran.

Some 1,186 screen productions from 74 countries have been submitted to the festival so far.

The entries are from Italy, France, Greece, Belgium, Romania, Germany, Portugal, Austria, Denmark, Taiwan, Bahrain, Turkey, Armenia, Brazil, Mexico, and Egypt.

France owns the highest record in the number of submitted films with 245 productions.

Organized by the Iranian Youth Cinema Society (IYCS), the festival is held to provide an opportunity for young filmmakers to exchange their experiences.

IYCS produces some 1,800 short films every year many of which have been screened in a number of international festivals.
