YEREVAN. – Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan received Canadian-Armenian sculptor Harutyun (Arto) Tchakmakchian. 

Highly appreciating the sculptor’s contribution to Armenian preservation and introducing the Armenian culture to the world, Hakobyan awarded Tchakmakchian with the Arshile Gorky Medal.     

In turn, the Canadian-Armenian sculptor expressed his gratitude for the award. 

Arto Tchakmakchian was born in Egypt in 1933. In 1948, he repatriated to Soviet Armenia with his family, and he lives in Montreal, Canada, since 1975.

Tchakmakchian is considered one of the founders of expressive sculpting. 

Arto Tchakmakchian’s most recent notable exhibition was held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris in 2010.
