YEREVAN. – Deputy chief of Yerevan police Valery Osipyan will resign if his guild is proved, he told the Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent commenting on criminal case launched against him.

“I am not guilty, and investigation will prove it. I have not done anything illegal. I learned about a criminal case from media,” he added

Nevertheless, Ospiyan pledged to resign if his guilt is proved.

As reported earlier, the Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Armenia has opened a criminal case against Yerevan Deputy Chief of Police Valeri Osipyan. The criminal case was instituted on the basis of media reports.

On the night of June 1, Valeri Osipyan’s nephew had stabbed Vanush Aleksanyan, 22. Subsequently, there were media reports stating that the Yerevan deputy police chief had met with the mother of one of the persons involved in the aforesaid incident, and attempted to reach an agreement with her so as to lay all the blame for the stabbing on the woman’s son.
