YEREVAN. – Armenia’s accession to the Customs/Eurasian Union is postponed yet again, 168 Zham daily reported.

“In political scientist Aghasi Yenokyan’s view, there are several reasons for the delay.

“The political scientist told 168 Zham that the first reason is that Armenia is not so interesting for the Eurasian Union, and therefore the EaEU [Eurasian Economic Union] members [Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus] are not in a hurry. And, ultimately, the issue at hand for the union leader Russia is not including Armenia in the Eurasian Union, but rather not allowing Armenia to partake in the European Union integration processes.

“[As per Yenokyan,] the other reason is that by keeping Armenia in a state of dependence, Russia is intensively negotiating with Azerbaijan on the matter of including it in the Eurasian Union.

“[According to the political scientist,] ‘This situation is convenient for negotiating with Azerbaijan because if they include Armenia [in the Eurasian Union], the tools for negotiating with Azerbaijan will reduce,’” 168 Zham wrote.
