YEREVAN. – Turkey is trying to gauge international mood on the opening of border in Armenia. Ankara is trying to assess the global reaction to the opening, MP Tevan Poghosyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am commenting on the Taraf publications.

As reported earlier, on Friday Turkish newspaper Taraf said Prime Minister Erdogan had allegedly instructed to open the border with Armenia in September.

“The border has never been closed from the Armenian side, it was closed from Turkey. Turkey's diplomacy is closely working with the media. Unfortunately, this is not happening in Armenia,” Poghosyan said.

The point is whether Turkey is using those reports to gauge the moods, to check the reaction of international community and Armenian society.

“If within the Turkish interests arises the idea that in the case of normalization of relations with Armenia world can mitigate its pressure, since  American and European, and Russian officials have recently stated that you need to normalize relations, there is an internal pressure exerted on Turkey to improve relations with Armenia, especially on the threshold of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide,” Poghosyan added.
