YEREVAN. –  With the centennial of the Armenian Genocide approaching, Turkey is using an illusion of establishing normal relations not only with Armenia, but the Diaspora Armenians, experts believe.

Political analyst Stepan Safaryan is confident that certain changes can be observed in Turkey's policy.  Previously Turkey stated the Ottoman past is their strategic goal, in fact Ankara wanted to return to the territories of Ottoman Empire, Safaryan said.

“But, the recent article by Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu seems not to mention these ideas.  Davutoglu seems to dismiss accusations that Turkey is trying yo resume influence in the former Ottoman territories,” Safaryan said during a press conference on Monday.

He believes Armenian side must be cautious with Turkey's new game, as their goal is to overcome difficult period ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

“To be fair, I must admit that the Armenian side is not working seriously towards recognition of the Armenian Genocide in certain countries,” Safaryan added.

As reported earlier, Turkish Taraf newspaper said Prime Minister Erdogan had allegedly instructed to open the border with Armenia in September. The newspaper claimed Turkey and Armenia have already held bilateral talks on the issue.
