YEREVAN. – We are against Armenia’s Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) accession, but in favor of evenly balanced cooperation between Armenia and Russia.   

Opposition Heritage Party Chairman, ex-presidential candidate, former FM Raffi Hovannisian said the abovementioned at a press conference on Tuesday.

“The [Armenian] authorities don’t have the people’s support to sign the accession treaty. If Armenia wishes, it may receive an observer’s right in any union, but not join it,” Hovannisian noted.   

In the opposition politician’s view, Armenia’s EaEU accession is delayed because the Customs Union countries (Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus) believe that, “Armenia is [already] in their pocket, with its illegitimate authorities, and now they are working in the direction of Azerbaijan.” 

“The Armenian authorities are illegitimate and they cannot sign the [EaEU accession]  agreement,” Heritage’s leader stressed.
