YEREVAN.  – Speaker of the Armenian parliament Galust Sahakyan on Thursday received UK Ambassador to Armenia Katherine Leach. 

Welcoming  the Ambassador, Sahakyan hailed Armenia-UK relationship and underscored importance of deepening parliamentary ties. Armenian speaker recalled that inter-parliamentary ties were established in 1992 when UK-Armenia parliamentary friendship group was formed. Galust Sahakyan emphasized importance of cooperation within international parliamentary platforms.

For her part, Ambassador Leach said UK attaches importance to development of cooperation between the parliaments. The UK Ambassador is convinced that the visit of Armenian lawmakers to UK in these days will give new impetus to inter-parliamentary ties and will strengthen interaction.

Regional challenges, Armenia-Turkey relations, Armenia's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, Armenia-EU cooperation, trade and economic ties were discussed. Speaker Abrahamyan expressed hope that next year British lawmakers will participate in the events dedicated to 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
