Konstantin Romodanovsky, who heads the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation (RF), hopes that the new law on granting RF citizenship will come into full force on August 1, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia

Pursuant to this law on granting facilitated RF citizenship, an applicant must meet four requirements: He must move to Russia, have relatives permanently living in Russia, know Russian—which a special committee will determine—, and give up his current citizenship.

As a result, an applicant can be granted Russian citizenship in one year, rather than in eight years, as it was the case.
