Within the framework of his official visit to Chile, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Friday met with President Aldo Cornejo González of the House of Deputies of the National Congress of Chile.

The interlocutors underscored the MPs’ role in the strengthening of interstate ties and friendship between the two nations, and stressed the need to develop interparliamentary collaboration. In their conviction, teamwork between the legislative bodies also will stimulate trade, economic, and cultural ties between Armenia and Chile.

The Armenian President noted that he would like to see González as the initiator of the expanding of Armenian-Chilean interparliamentary cooperation.

González, for his part, assured that he will exert all efforts to establish closer ties with the Armenian parliament, and highlighted the Chilean parliamentary friendship group members’ visit to Armenia.

Separately, Serzh Sargsyan stressed the Chilean senate’s 2007 decision to formally recognize the Armenian Genocide. This decision, as per the Armenia President, opened a new chapter in Armenian-Chilean friendship and also transmitted a special nature to the interparliamentary ties between both countries.
