A number of air companies said they would operate international flights bypassing Ukraine's air space.

Russia's Transaero and S7 as well as Lufthansa have already announced the decision, BBC Russian service reported.

The Ukrainian air space was not formally closed, but the companies are making unilateral decisions after Boeing 777 crashed near Donetsk, in the south-east of Ukraine. The passenger plane was heading from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.
