YEREVAN. – Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mohammad Reisi on Friday made quite interesting statements on security topics, Zhamanak daily reported.

“He warned Russia that if the Russian weapons given to Azerbaijan fire, Russia [itself] will be the first to suffer from it. [Official] Tehran understands [official] Moscow’s strategic issues and targets in the region, which reach all the way to Iran.

“The important thing for Moscow is not solely the establishment of its military presence in Artsakh [Nagorno-Karabakh], but, through it, to block the possibility of Iran’s play in the direction of the Caucasus, and then seek influence that will enable to turn Tehran into the next ‘outpost.’

“Iran [, however,] warns Russia that it will not permit [Russia] to start the first phase of this plan: ensuring a [Russian] military presence in Artsakh,” Zhamanak wrote.
