Armenia’s Armavir city Mayor Ruben Khlghhatyan’s automobile had exploded on the road and not in a mined area, as initially reported. 

At present, the police are trying to ascertain how the landmine had appeared in the area.

Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned that there were five passengers in the automobile, including Ruben Khlghhatyan’s brother who, fortunately, suffered no injuries.   

Three passengers, including Khlghhatyan, sustained injuries as a result of the landmine blast. At present, they are in the intensive care unit of Erebuni Medical Center in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan.

The aforesaid incident occurred Tuesday at around 6:30am, in Vaghazin village of the Kashatagh Region of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, as a Toyota Prado exploded. As a result, the driver died on the spot, whereas passengers Ruben Khlghhatyan, Artur Baghdasaryan, and Garnik Avetisyan were taken to a local medical center. Subsequently, however, they were transported on a helicopter to Erebuni Medical Center.
