Azerbaijani human rights defender Leyla Yunus issued a statement saying “bloody tyranny” is reigning in Azerbaijan.

Yunus said she and her husband are facing fabricated charges of a number of crimes, up to treason, minval.az reported.

“I have been working on the problem of political prisoners for a long time and I am well aware now about tortures in the national security ministry's jail. I understand the decision to physically destroy our family: Arif and me,” she said.

Yunus said she was warned that would be killed after the murder of Elmar Huseynov in 2005, but most likely the decision was canceled.

“But, today in 2014 bloody tyranny in Azerbaijan has no limits. I clearly understand that Arif and I will be tortured till death. Let everyone know what a bloody tyranny is reigning in Azerbaijan, a country chairing the Council of Europe,” Yunus said.
