Presidential candidate Salahaddin Demirtas, candidate from pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party, set a record by getting 3.9 million votes during the Sunday presidential elections in Turkey.

Previously the votes of Kurdish party's candidates did not exceed 2.5 million. He got many votes not only in Turkey's Kurdish-populated east, but in the western part of the country.

Demirtas has repeatedly condemned Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire calling on Turkish authorities to acknowledge the crime.
