At a talk with reporters, US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern reflected on Azerbaijan’s most recent shelling of Armenia’s border villages.

Heffern noted that the Armenian, Russian, and Azerbaijani presidents’ recent trilateral meeting in Sochi, Russia, contributed to the fact that the shots fired by Azerbaijan were reduced, the Aravot daily reported.

“When the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan meet, it’s the best way to solve the problem peacefully,” the ambassador said.

At Aravot.am’s request, Heffern also commented on what the repercussions of the US sanctions against Russia will be on Armenia.

“The sanctions are aimed against Russia, not Armenia, but they can affect Armenia’s economy. If Armenia doesn’t like this, they should complain to Moscow,” the American diplomat stated.
