YEREVAN. – The Armenian producers have always exported high quality fish to Russia.

Artur Atoyan, who is head of the Armenian Fish Farmers Association, told the aforesaid to reporters on Wednesday.

In his words, the Armenian fish embargo, which the Rosselkhoznadzor (Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of the Russian Federation) had imposed in late 2008, does not “spoil” the overall picture, since fish are suspected of spreading intestinal bacteria. And as per Atoyan, intestinal bacteria can be found everywhere, and most often due to trading companies.

“They transfer fish from one pool to another, to another. It falls to the ground, they pick it up, and here, the intestinal bacteria is ready! The fish farmers can’t track and respond to all this,” he added.

The Rosselkhoznadzor has conducted a continuous monitoring of Armenia’s embargoed fish farms, and as a result, most of these enterprises have regained the right to export fish to Russia.
