STEPANAKERT. – Three museums opened in Shushi, a town in Nagorno-Karabakh, during a year after the Ministry of Culture and Youth Affairs moved to the city.

Now the town has art museum, geological museum and museum of carpets, Minister Narine Aghabalyan told reporters.

The Minister said restoration of Shushi has not been progressing, but the situation changed after telethon was launched.

“Shushi was considered an Armenian cultural city in the region in XIX and up to the 20s of the last century. Therefore, relocation of the Ministry is of strategic importance in terms of returning the former status of the city,” she said.

“All this has entirely changed the image of Shushi. The museums are attended by 60-100 people a day which testifies to rising interest in culture,” she added.

Official opening of geological museum is planned for September 1.
