YEREVAN. – The Armenian trucks’ departures to Russia via the Upper Lars-Kazbegi border checkpoint will be temporarily postponed.

Sati shipping company CEO Makar Arakelyan told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am, reflecting on the consequence of the landslide that occurred on the highway near the Georgian-Russian border, and at around 3am.

“Trucks from Armenia [also] are in the pile-up on both the Georgian and the Russian side [of the border]. According to our estimation, [there are] not too many [Armenian trucks], but we still don’t exactly know how many,” Arakelyan noted.

According to him, the Armenia-based shipping companies have no data yet on the time limits for the clearing of the motorway.

Artur Arakelyan, who is Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication of Armenia, had told earlier that the road is closed at present. In addition, problems arose with Georgia’s North Caucasus-Transcaucasia main natural gas pipeline whereby the Russian gas enters Armenia. The gas supply through this pipeline was suspended Wednesday at around 11pm.
