YEREVAN. – The Azerbaijani side has continued to violate the ceasefire on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border and the Karabakh-Azerbaijani Line of Contact, from August 17 to 22.
The aforementioned is noted in the statement which the Ministry of Defense of Armenia has released.
“The adversary violated the ceasefire on the Line of Contact between the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing forces around 240 times, during which more than 1,900 shots were fired in the direction of Armenian positions, and by way of different-caliber rifle weaponry.
“The adversary violated the ceasefire on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border around 48 times, during which more than 300 shots were fired in the direction of Armenian positions, and by way of different-caliber rifle weaponry.
“[But] the Armenia Armed Forces and the NKR [Nagorno-Karabakh Republic] Defense Army vanguard units primarily adhered to the ceasefire and took retaliatory actions solely when absolutely necessary.
“The ceasefire violations by the Azerbaijani side once again show that the leadership of the Azerbaijani armed forces and the defense ministry intentionally resorts to provocative actions, to create artificial tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijani Line of Contact, or, the Azerbaijani armed forces’ subdivisions, which are stationed on the border, do not comply with the central command.
“The Ministry of Defense of Armenia once again calls on the Azerbaijani side to refrain from steps toward aggravating the situation, and to take active measures to stabilize the situation on the border,” the Armenia MOD statement specifically reads.
