YEREVAN. – Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan is confident Armenia can and should grow more grapes.

He offers to increase land area under cultivation of grapes by 5,000 hectares and even more.

“The benefits of table grapes is high profit for our farmers,” he said during a press conference on Friday.

And of course, the agriculture ministry pins hopes on the Russian market with its traditionally big demands for fresh grapes from Armenia. The total area of ​​vineyards in Armenia is 17,465 hectares, but most of the areas are under cultivation of grapes for brandy production.
