Official Kyiv expects to see a program of assistance to Ukraine during German Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit to the country, Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said in an interview with ZDF.

“Many speak of a type of Marshall Plan -- why not a kind of Merkel Plan,” he said.

The Ukrainian government is convinced Merkel should play a leading role in settlement of relations with Russia. Germany is leading the stabilization efforts in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, so that Ukraine can proceed on a European path.

German Chancellor will arrive on a visit to Ukraine on Saturday for the first time after the start of Ukrainian crisis.

The Marshall Plan was U.S. program of assistance to Europe after the end of the World War II.
