According to preliminary data announced by Abkhazia’s Central Election Commission (CEC), opposition leader Raul Hajimba has won Sunday’s presidential election in Abkhazia.

In the first round, Hajimba garnered 50.57 percent of the votes, CEC Chairman Batal Tabagua told reporters.

According to the Electoral Law of Abkhazia, the candidate who gets 50 percent plus one vote wins the election. 

The voter turnout was 70 percent, and no significant violations were recorded during the voting, the Abkhazia CEC also stated.
