YEREVAN. – Recognition of the Armenian Genocide is the task of not solely the Turkish authorities, but the Turkish people.

A group of Canadian MPs, who are visiting Armenia, stated the abovementioned during their talk Tuesday with National Assembly (NA) Speaker Galust Sahakyan.

Sahakyan underscored the Armenia-Canada political discourse and the further development of bilateral relations. He also highlighted the friendship groups’ activities in the development of interparliamentary ties. In addition, the Armenian parliament leader praised the Armenian and Canadian MPs’ effective cooperation within prestigious international organizations

Reflecting on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Sahakyan noted that Armenia seeks solely a peaceful settlement to this matter and appreciates Canada’s balanced position on this issue.

Galust Sahakyan added that the year 2015 will mark the centennial of the Armenian Genocide, and he commended Canada’s role in the international recognition of this tragedy. Furthermore, the NA speaker invited the Canadian guests to participate in the international conference on genocide; the convention will be held in April 2015 in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan.

The Canadian delegation members, for their part, noted that they visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial on Tuesday morning, and by getting acquainted with the exhibits at the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, they fully felt the pain of the Armenian people. In addition, they gladly accepted the Armenian parliament leader’s invitation to participate in the aforementioned international conference.

The interlocutors also discussed other matters of mutual interest.
