The bill on imposing a stricter punishment for involvement in racism, or inciting violence on the grounds of racism, will not be introduced for discussion at the Greek parliament on Tuesday, as planned, but rather on September 1.

Hripsime Harutyunyan, who is Chief Editor of the Armenian-language Azad Or daily of Greece, told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The bill also specifies a criminal accountability for the denial, or praise of genocides, crimes against humanity, war crimes, the Jewish Holocaust, and Nazism, and when this denial, or praise causes racial hatred, or violence.

In Harutyunyan’s words, the Armenian community in Greece follows the respective course of events.

“We expect that, with this bill, the denial of the Armenian Genocide will be regarded as a criminal offense,” she added.

In 1994, the Greek parliament formally recognized the Armenian Genocide.
