YEREVAN. – Russia's Ombudsman has appealed to state agencies regarding the health of Armenian-Russian businessman Levon Hayrapetyan.

Ombudsman asked to get him transported to the hospital if necessary, adviser to Armenian Ombudsman Yeranuhi Tumanyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“We are in constant phone contact with our Russian colleagues. They are studying the case, and Russia's Ombudsman has appealed to the relevant agencies. We are focused on the health condition, as it is priority issue at the moment. According to Russian laws, Hayrapetyan cannot remain in custody with such illnesses,” she said.

Levon Hayrapetyan, 65, was detained in a Moscow airport on July 15 and subsequently arrested. On July 24, the Russian Federation Investigation Committee brought two criminal charges against him: embezzlement or misuse, and money laundering. To note, even though Hayrapetyan has health problems, he is still kept in prison.
