YEREVAN. – Armenian National Assembly (NA) Vice-Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, who also heads the NA Armenia-Greece Parliamentary Friendship Group, on Wednesday had a telephonic conversation with Apostolos Kaklamanis, the Head of the Greece-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Greek Parliament.

The Armenia NA deputy chair thanked his Greek colleague and—through him—all the other Greek MPs for voting, on Tuesday, in favor of the bill that criminalizes the denial of the Armenian Genocide.

Sharmazanov noted that Armenia highly values this step by the Greek lawmakers, and considers this to be a service rendered not solely to the Armenian and the Greek peoples, but to the whole of humanity and civilization. He stressed that the fight against genocide denial closes the door before new genocides.

In turn, Kaklamanis expressed readiness to continue to assist in the consolidation and strengthening of Armenian-Greek relations.
