YEREVAN. – Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Wednesday awarded Felix Aharonian, Igor Karachentsev, and Brent Talley, who have won the scientific contest for the Viktor Ambartsumian International Prize 2014.
The prize is $500,000, of which $250,000 were awarded to Aharonian, and the rest was equally distributed to the other two prizewinners.
“This is the third time that we pay tribute to leading scientists. By setting the Viktor Ambartsumian International Prize, we were fully aware of the importance of its standing,” Sargsyan specifically said at the award presentation.
In the President’s words, the Prize value depends on the scientific and academic level of the winners.
Sargsyan also underscored the need for such awards in the field of science.
“As a young state, Armenia continues to attach importance to the development of science, [and] to have its unique place in the scientific world.
“[But] along with this, we realize that there are still a lot of work to do in our country towards the development of science,” Serzh Sargsyan stated, in particular.
All the prizewinners are leading astronomers and persons behind numerous scientific discoveries.
