YEREVAN. – The negative balance of the arrivals to and the departures from Armenia is higher in 2013 than in 2008.

Armenian National Statistical Service (NSS) official Karine Kuyumjyan said the aforementioned at a press conference on Wednesday.

She noted that this negative balance totaled 23,100 people (1,397 arrivals and 1,420 departures) in 2008, against 32,200 (1,297 and 1,329, respectively) in the year past.

The specialist, however, noted that these indicators cannot be considered emigration.

“People can leave and return suppose two months later, or arrive in December and return in January,” Kuyumjyan explained.

According to the NSS methodology, an Armenian citizen who is abroad for 6 months or more is considered to have emigrated.
