President Serzh Sargsyan and Pope Francis expressed satisfaction with the development and strengthening of bilateral relations during their meeting on Friday.
The interlocutors stressed importance of mutual visits that are evidence of the sides' readiness to focus on bilateral cooperation, president's press service reported.
President of Armenia and His Holiness Pope Francis exchanged views on close cooperation between the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the Catholic church.
During the meeting, President Sargsyan conveyed a formal invitation to visit Armenia in 2015. His Holiness accepted the invitation with pleasure, adding he was eager to visit Armenia.
Serzh Sargsyan subsequently met with His Eminence Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin. They discussed the current level and prospects for development of Armenia-Vatican relationship. The sides discussed problems related to Christian communities and Christian heritage of the Middle East.
They also touched upon peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict. President Sargsyan thanked Cardinal for the balanced approach of the Holy See.
