YEREVAN. – Minister of Justice Hovhannes Manukyan received British Ambassador to Armenia Katherine (Kathy) Jane Leach.

At the request of Ambassador Leach, Manukyan presented the Armenia Justice Ministry’s priority issues and its problems that require an urgent solution, the Ministry press service informed. The minister added that a considerable work has been done to improve Armenia’s judicial system.

Manukyan also underscored the need for the Armenian public sector’s engagement in the state’s addressing of important problems and, in this connection, he drew the UK diplomat’s attention to the activities by the Armenian Public Council under the Minister of Justice.

The interlocutors also discussed human rights issues. In this context, Ambassador Leach asked about the rights of Armenia’s prisoners and their confinement conditions. The justice minister assured that these matters are at the focus of the ministry.

The two sides expressed their willingness to make Armenia-UK cooperation become more productive in the domain of justice.

At the end of the talk, Hovhannes Manukyan invited Ambassador Katherine (Kathy) Jane Leach for a tour of the Armavir Correctional Facility, to get familiarized with the newly built prison on location, and the ambassador gladly accepted the invitation.
