YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition Free Democrats Party Vice-Chairwoman Anush Sedrakyan is bewildered that the three non-government National Assembly (NA) factions’ (Armenian National Congress, Prosperous Armenia, and Heritage) joint rally will be held on October 10, when Armenia is expected to sign the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) accession agreement.

“I don’t understand that the [parliamentary] trio is holding a rally on the day of the EaEU accession, and no one has touched upon this reality. This is an incomprehensible move; it’s just an unclear policy.

“After all this, I am convinced that we [Armenia] have no [political] opposition; our people are the opposition,” Sedrakyan said at a press conference on Monday.

In turn, ruling Republican Party (RPA) NA Faction member Levon Martirosyan stated that the only thing that is clear is what the opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party wants.

“Apparently, it is clear that a position has changed within these forces. They say that the Constitutional reforms are out of time. In my view, [however,] this is not a strong argument.

“Apparently, they have decided something for the 2017 [parliamentary] and 2018 [presidential] elections. In 2012, however, the same forces were in favor of the parliamentary system of governance,” the RPA MP noted.

ARF stated that it will not participate in the aforesaid rally arguing that it is wrong to speak about the Constitutional reforms during this public assembly.
