Armenia rates positively the Czech authorities’ balanced position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict issue.

Armenia National Assembly (NA) Vice-Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, who is in the Czech Republic on an official visit, stated the aforementioned at the official dinner which was held on behalf of Miluše Horská, the Vice-President of the Senate of the Czech Republic, at the Valdstein Palace of the Czech Senate, and in honor of the NA delegation’s visit to the Czech Republic.

“There is no alternative to the exercising of the right of peoples to self-determination. The vivid evidence of this was the recent referendum in Scotland.

“It would be desirable if the Czech deputies of the European Parliament also actively assist in the development of balanced positions on regional matters,” Sharmazanov specifically noted.

He added that the year 2015 will mark the centennial of the Armenian Genocide and, in this connection, numerous events will be held.

“I formally invite you to attend the international conference, titled ‘Against the Crime of Genocide,’ which will be held on April 22 and 23[, 2015,] in [Armenia’s capital city] Yerevan.

“We hope that the Parliament of the Czech Republic will recognize the Armenian Genocide, in the lead-up to the 100th anniversary of Armenian Genocide, and join those countries that have recognized and condemned the Armenian Genocide as a crime against humanity,” the Armenian National Assembly Vice-Speaker also stated, in particular.
