YEREVAN. – Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan moderated an analytical discussion devoted to Armenia’s energy sector.

The event brought together the heads of the relevant departments and World Bank (WB) representatives. 

Abrahamyan underscored the WB technical assistance toward the further development of the country’s energy sector.

In turn, Henry Kerali, the WB Regional Director for the South Caucasus, reflected on the results of the study conducted in Armenia’s energy sector. He stressed that the country has registered great progress in this domain in the past fifteen years. He added, however, that it is necessary to carry out the second phase of reforms, and by way of implementing specific projects, to ensure the continuity of this progress.

The WB representatives, who conducted analyses on Armenia’s energy sector, presented the results of their work.    

Armenia Energy and Natural Resources Minister Yervand Zakharyan informed that a comprehensive action plan is worked on to achieve the further development of the country’s energy system, and that this action plan will be presented before the year’s end.   

Summing up the discussion, Hovik Abrahamyan thanked the WB for the productive cooperation, and stressed that the Government of Armenia aims to ensure a sustainable energy system in the country.   

Henry Kerali, for his part, reaffirmed the World Bank’s willingness to continue providing technical assistance and guidance to the Armenian government.
