YEREVAN. – Tatevik Khachatryan, the Armenia Human Rights Defender’s deputy on socioeconomic affairs, received several merchants on Saturday.

The merchants had come to the office of the ombudsman to express their dissatisfaction with the new amendment in the Law on Turnover Tax, about which they had submitted a letter of complaint to Human Rights Defender of Armenia.

The ombudsman’s deputy informed them that this matter is at the focus of the Human Rights Defender, and added that they have to deal with this matter only now because, in violation of a presidential decree, the draft amendment was not previously submitted for the ombudsman’s consideration.

“Upon the [Human Rights] Defender’s instruction, urgent steps are taken now to find solutions to the problem. We will continue to work with you in this direction, and we will present our position and recommendations in the coming days,” Khachatryan told the merchants.

Pursuant to the new amendment in the Law on Turnover Tax, which will come into force on October 1, a business enterprise will be warned at first, and, subsequently, it will be fined for not submitting a document on its commodity circulation. The large businesses, however, often do not provide documents to the small and medium-sized enterprises concerning the products.
