Due to a landslide hazard at Devdoraki Gorge, the Lars checkpoint on the Georgian-Russian border will be temporarily closed at night.

David Shavliashvili, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, told the aforementioned to reporters on Monday.

As per the minister, heavy rainfall is forecast for the area.

“According to the meteorologists, landslides are not expected, but there is a danger that large mountain masses could move.

“For security considerations, we most likely will close the checkpoint at night hours, and then look at the weather conditions,” Shavliashvili stated, in particular.

The Georgian media report that the weather conditions in the country will sharply deteriorate in the coming days.
