YEREVAN. – Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan received a delegation led by Mark Horton, Head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to Armenia.

Abrahamyan noted that the Government of Armenia endeavors to improve economic climate, combat shadow economy and corruption, and reduce poverty in the country. In the PM’s words, the implementation of institutional reforms is a fundamental guarantee that contributes to economic growth.

In turn, Horton expressed satisfaction with the performance of the first phase of IMF’s new three-year program for Armenia, and stressed that the planned activities are conducted with success.

Reflecting on the trends of Armenia’s economic development, the IMF official recorded the successes especially in aviation and agriculture. At the same time he emphasized that the IMF stands ready to provide additional assistance to the Armenian government, in order to address the possible challenges and implement the envisioned reforms.

The parties also conferred on the program priorities, fiscal and monetary policy, and tax and customs administration of the Government of Armenia, and on bilateral collaboration.
