Armenia, just as Moldova, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan, enjoys a significant degree of pluralism and relatively little state censorship.

The 2014 Press Freedom Index published by Reporters Without Borders said the region’s four best-placed countries this year are the same as last year. The 2013 elections in Georgia and Armenia were calmer than previous ones. Violence against journalists was rare.

The ranking itself speaks about better situation in these countries. Armenia is ranked 78th – the best ranking among neighbors – and Georgia is 84th, unlike neighboring Azerbaijan that is only 160th.
