YEREVAN. – Budget deficit in Armenia in 2014 is going to hit 1.5% of GDP, Mark Horton, head of the International Monetary Fund's mission to Armenia told the media on Tuesday.

This is considerably lower than the state budget target of 2.3% of GDP, he noticed. The rationale beyond a different projection is the underspending of the state budget.

Within its current stay in Armenia, the IMF mission has already held talks with the financial authorities on the 2015 draft budget.

“We saw a somewhat larger budget deficit, provided that additional expenditures go to capital spending. Some measures will be applied to address underspending, which in our view is very positive,” he added.
