YEREVAN. – On October 10, Armenia will sign the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) Treaty, and as of January 1 of next year, its accession to this organization will become a reality.

Armenia-based Caucasus Institute Deputy Director, political analyst Sergey Minasyan noted the aforesaid at a press conference on Wednesday.

In his words, the provision, which stipulates the setting up of a customs checkpoint on the border between Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), is the most formal point in the draft treaty. Minasyan assured that it is impossible to have any format where Armenia and Karabakh do not form a politico-military and an economic union.

Commenting on Russia’s present-day disagreement with Kazakhstan and Belarus, including with respect to Armenia’s EaEU accession, the analyst stressed, in particular: “Armenia’s accession factor was a good opportunity for [official] Astana and Minsk to use it as a lever for snatching more favorable conditions from the Russian side.”

As per Sergey Minasyan, the Turkic solidarity also was a factor in the case of Kazakhstan.
