YEREVAN. – Representatives of four parliamentary groups will be received by speaker Galust Sahakyan to discuss the turnover tax, the speaker said during the Wednesday session of parliament.

Earlier four groups said they will address all political forces presented in the National Assembly to call for a special meeting with speaker on turnover tax. Unless the parties reach consensus during the meeting, the four parties will use an opportunity to convey another special session of parliament.

Head of RPA parliamentary group Vahram Baghdasaryan called the four parties' approach “interesting”, since two days ago they were offered to discuss the issue, but the parties refused, as they had not made decision on holding a special session. He believes it is clear that the opposition parties wanted to get political dividends.

The opposition groups drafted a new bill on tax turnover that suggested to enable the merchants to choose between either working with the old law, giving a 3.5 percent turnover tax, and refraining from documentation, or working with the new law, giving a one percent turnover tax, but carrying out documentation.

Pursuant to the amendments to the Law on Turnover Tax, which have come into force on Wednesday, a business enterprise will be warned at first, and, subsequently, it will be fined for not submitting a document on its commodity circulation. The large businesses, however, often do not provide documents to the small and medium-sized enterprises concerning the products. The government justifies these amendments with the need for taxing Armenia’s large businesses.
