YEREVAN. –  Armenia looks forward to signing of the treaty on joining Eurasian Economic Union that is coming into force in January 2015, member of RPA Galust Sahakyan told reporters.

Sahakyan, head of Armenian parliament’s standing committee on state and legal affairs, said membership will solve a strategic task, the problem of political and economic security.

“This is the reason that joining the Union is right and expedient,” he added.

Commenting on possible checkpoint between the border of Armenia and Karabakh, the MP said: “I do not think this is the topic that we need to discuss, and thus we can damage the process.  Armenia’s progress cannot ever be achieved at the expense of prosperity and recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh”.

The signing of a treaty on Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Union is planned for Friday.
