YEREVAN. – Any serious problem within Turkey has a positive impact in terms recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Turkologist Gevorg Petrosyan noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Saturday, explaining that in this case the Turkish state directs its resources on these matters, and not on actions against genocide recognition.

In his words, even though the Kurds are exploiting the Armenian Genocide issue, the latter is not the matter whereby Turkey’s “backbone” can be “broken.”

“An in general, the Armenian Genocide issue is not a priority for Turkey; it has more important problems. The Kurdish issue, for example is, the main problem of the Turkish state,” Petrosyan noted.

As for the existence of an Armenian community in Turkey, the turkologist stressed that Turkey needs this community for its own image.

“The Armenian community does not pose a threat for Turkey. In addition, it is engaged in the activities in a variety of domains,” Gevorg Petrosyan maintained.
